Monday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary time ‘c’

Some people would have expected to gain something while following Jesus Christ. What if I become a Christian? Would others respect me, love me, or perhaps might I gain some position and riches because of that? Who knows? There might be today people who think like that. But Jesus reminds us that we shouldn’t expect anything in exchange for being a Christian, at least not in this world. Yes, if you are a faithful disciple of our Lord, then you will gain much for that, but not in this life. Today we read that, “A scribe approached Jesus and said to him, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus answered him, Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” Jesus is very clear. Yes, follow me, but don’t expect a comfortable way of living for that. Rather be prepared for challenges and persecution; the choice is yours.
