Monday of the Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

There are things that we do to others in order to be liked, to be appreciated, to keep a good relationship, thinking for example -- I helped her today so she owes me a favor. Some celebrities, just to gain more fame, make a big deal of helping a poor person or of donating to some charities and then publicize it all over the place, so people would say -- what a generous person. This is not what Jesus expects from His disciples. Jesus wants us to be generous without expecting anything in return. Jesus wants us to help, to share, to love even if we might never hear ‘thank you’. “Blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” And this is exactly what should motivate us in helping others -- the repayment at the resurrection of the righteous.
