It is not about how much you give, it is more about how much you care. That’s why Jesus praised that poor widow who put only two small coins as her offering towards the temple. There were some wealthy people who offered much more, but they “made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her all livelihood.” That’s why I said that it is not so much about how much you offer, but if you really care? It seems to me that Jesus praised the widow because she showed her concern; she cared. Today our churches depend on their parishioners’ generosity; that’s how they can function. But how to support the church when you yourself struggle financially? It is not only about money; there are many other ways to support the church. I know families that can’t support their parish financially. However, they are always ready to help, to volunteer, to offer their time and talents in order to support their church. Why? Because they care.
