“When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost,’ they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, ‘Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.’ Peter said to him in reply, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. He said, ‘Come.’” It is interesting that there were other disciples in that boat, however only Peter asked Jesus to join Him and left the boat. I think we need to be just like Peter and take the risk of leaving our comfort zone and courageously walk toward Jesus. Many of us Catholics are afraid today to openly profess our faith and to speak to others about Christ. We are afraid that we will be rejected, so we think it is better to keep our beliefs to ourselves. Today, I am reminded that I need to leave my comfort zone and that safe boat and just like Peter walk towards Jesus. It won’t be easy, my faith may be even shaken, I may start sinking, but Jesus is there ready to save me, just like He saved Peter.
