It is not easy today to manifest our faith in Jesus. I am always impressed with those people who, for example, make a sign of the cross walking by a church, or before the flight. Or those who are brave enough to say to a friend or family member that what they are doing, the way they live, is morally wrong. It is not easy to be a Christian today and stand for life from conception to natural death or to include your faith in Christian values when discussing our schools, societies, country. That’s why many of us keep silent, go to church on Sunday, say the rosary, but do not want to speak about our religion in places where Jesus is not welcomed. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit and His gifts to make us wiser, stronger, more courageous. Like the disciples of Jesus who were afraid to go out, people today don’t know what to do. Today we read that: “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” Only after receiving the Holy Spirit were the disciples able to go out and courageously witness their faith in Christ. We need the same Holy Spirit today; we need to pray to Him asking for His wonderful gifts that would make us stronger, wiser, and rejoicing Christians.
