Do you remember when Jesus called Peter to follow Him and Peter said, something like: Lord, please leave me alone, I am a sinful man. Today Jesus extends the same invitation to another sinful man, a tax collector named Levi. You and I may have the same wrong perception that in order to be Christian, a follower of Jesus, we need to be perfect and holy. That’s why many of us don’t want to talk about Jesus, don’t want to speak about our faith, and we don’t invite others to join us in our Christianity. We would rather make excuses like Peter – no, I am too sinful, this is not my job, other more holy people should do that, not me! But that is not true! Jesus doesn’t want your perfection but your availability. He is powerful enough to make you His disciple. “Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.”
