Saturday of the 18 week in ordinary time ‘b’

Writer: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

Even Jesus loses His patience at times. I find this gospel reading today a little humorous. I kind of imagine Jesus looking hopelessly at the disciples and saying: Come on, you still can’t do anything on your own? Where is your faith? Bring that boy to me. It reminds me of some situations from my home. When I was young, my mom would ask me to do the dishes. But when she saw how useless I was, she regretted asking, and so would say: Leave it, I can’t watch this, you can’t even wash the dishes -- I will do it. You and I, we lose our patience at times. It is natural that we do. Jesus does it too. But hopefully He will never lose his patience with us. And we need His patience, because we are just like His disciples sometimes, when we lack faith: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you?” The stronger the faith you have, the more patient Jesus is.
