Saturday of the 9 week in ordinary time ‘b’

The church is a building, and just like any other building it needs to have its bills paid. As you can imagine, these bills can be very high. So, if we want to keep our places of worship in good condition, we need to support them financially. There are some who are very generous in supporting the parish, some who support it less, and obviously some who are simply not able to give much, or anything at all. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t support our parish. In today’s gospel we read: “Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.” Some of us may not be able to offer much in financial support to our parish, but we can support it in many different ways -- by sharing of our own time and talent, by volunteering at being an usher, reader, or a cantor. And in many other ways. We can always “put in more than all the other contributors.”
