Saturday of the Fifth Week of Easter ‘a’

Before Jesus was raised from the dead, He died on the cross. Why? Because others couldn’t stand that He called Himself the Son of God; they hated Him for that. Then all of Jesus’ disciples who were spreading the Good News also ended up persecuted and killed for their faith in Jesus. As Christians, we can’t expect to be always loved, welcomed, and appreciated. We need to be prepared that at times we might be rejected and even persecuted. There are still places in this world where Christians are killed for proclaiming their faith in Jesus. Jesus said: “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.” In the end, we do not belong to this world, but we belong to Jesus Christ.
