Saturday of the First Week of Lent ‘a’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

Why should I love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me? This is insane! In fact, those who hurt me or persecute me deserve to be punished. Besides, if I try to forgive, love, or pray for my enemies, I show approval to their wrongdoing -- at least this is what I always thought. But today I look at this commandment of Jesus a little bit differently. It is not about my enemies; it is all about me. Jesus wants me to be free from all those bad feeling, from anger and from hatred. By loving, praying, forgiving we don’t show approval of any bad behavior. Not at all, because that may not even change our enemies. But again, it is not about them, leave them to God. We need to make sure that we are free of those bad feelings towards them. Only when we let them go, try to pray for them and try to forget, we will make more room in our hearts for Christ and for all those healthy and joyful feelings.
