Saturday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

‘What are others going to think about us?’ Thinking this way may prevent us from being ourselves. And we may pretend in front of others that we are something else than we truly are. I do that sometimes. For example, when I don’t want to go somewhere, or to avoid an uncomfortable conversation on a plane with the person next to me who just asked me what I do for a living. Immediately in my head I am thinking: should I tell them that I am a priest or not? Maybe you do this sometimes too. Or perhaps, you have a luncheon with your coworkers, and you know that it would be proper to start with a prayer and thank God for His gifts. However, you are afraid to start because – again - what others might think about you? And there are many situations like that, situations in which we don’t want to show others that we deeply believe in God and that faith is very important to us. We hide it from others and keep it only to ourselves. But Jesus tells us today that “whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.” We shouldn’t be afraid to admit that we are Christians. More than that, we should be proud to tell others that we belong to Jesus.
