During these last weeks, many of our children received the Eucharist for the very first time- First Holy Communion. It is always a joy and a blessing to every parish. The day of that celebration and the Holy Mass is always very nice. Children beautifully dressed, churches nicely decorated, family and friends come over to celebrate even from out of town. A big day! Those children come for the very first time to fully participate in the Eucharist. They come to Jesus to be close, to be united with Him, to fill their hearts with God. Sadly, after that day special day, I see less and less of those beautiful children coming back to Sunday Mass to receive Jesus. And Jesus is here, waiting for them. Obviously, those second or third graders can’t come to church on their own; they need to be brought in. Sometimes we are the ones who prevent those children from coming to Jesus. He said: “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
