It may seem to us like this world is coming to an end. There is so much evil happening almost all over the world. Each morning while checking the news, we hear about shootings, killings, abuses, and all kinds of crime. The first question that comes to mind is - why does God allow that to happen? Why doesn’t God intervene and wipe away all those evildoers? And the answer to that can be found in Jesus’ parable from today’s gospel. Jesus us speaking about the good seed that was planted in the field. However, the enemy spread in that same field the seeds of evil, so that when the harvest grew, they realized that the good fruit was surrounded by weeds. One of the slaves asked the master: “'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, ‘First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.’” This is how God reacts to the evil in our world today. Evil always was, is now and always will be among us. However, God is patient and waits. That doesn’t mean that He doesn’t care -- He does care, and one day when the time of judgment comes, He will separate the good from the evil.
