Saturday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Couple days ago, we heard Jesus’ words which said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.” And now Jesus explains to us what He meant by that. We all know the commandments, and we try to follow them. However, Jesus is telling His followers that it is not enough for us not to kill just because we don’t actually kill anybody, it is not enough for us not to commit adultery, it is not enough not to take a false oath. But we must go deeper. We should look into our hearts and souls and see if there is any anger in there, any malice, any envy, any unhealthy desires. If there is anything like that in us, we must ask God for His mercy and forgiveness. Jesus didn’t come to abolish the law or the prophets, but He brought a new meaning to it. “Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is from the Evil One.”
