Saturday of the Thirty- First Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.” These strong words are addressed to the leaders of religion - the Pharisees. Jesus continues: “You cannot serve God and mammon.” And these warnings are also being addressed to us, the religious leaders of today -- priests, pastors, bishops. We are called to give a good example of living, and our mission is to help others to meet and follow Christ. However, there are some religious leaders today who, instead of caring for others, selfishly run after their own gain and own fame. You can’t serve God and mammon; you must choose. All the religious leaders are called to serve God and His people, but some get lost and ended up serving mammon… “The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him. And he said to them, You justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts.”
