Saturday of the Thirty- Fourth Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

This Sunday we begin a new liturgical year and the season of Advent. Only four weeks to Christmas. Time to start thinking about Christmas decorations, shopping for the gifts, cleaning, and planning Christmas dinner. Advent becomes a very busy and even overwhelming time for many of us -- too many things to plan, to think about. How about preparation for the coming of the Lord this Christmas, since this is the reason for the joy and celebrations? This is what Jesus reminds us about today: “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap.” We all get busy with our daily tasks and preparations; however, we can’t forget about preparing our souls for the coming of the Messiah. Perhaps on top of preparing your house, shopping and other important tasks, think how can you prepare your soul for Christmas -- pray more, read the bible, be nice to others, help, love, go to confession. Prepare not only your house, but your soul.
