Saturday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

We all can learn much from the centurion in the gospel reading today. Not only is he a man of deep faith in Jesus, but he also shows great concern about one of his servants who was very ill. Just think about that - a centurion, a rich and powerful man, is coming to Jesus because he is worried about his servant. He could just replace him, get rid of him, but no -- he shows his deep love and concern even toward that insignificant person. Jesus praises the centurion for his faith but also for his love toward his neighbor. Who is my neighbor? Everyone who needs my love and my help regardless of social status, beliefs, ethnicity, age, or gender. Jesus’ disciple must show respect to every human being. “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”
