Saturday of the Twenty Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

Have you ever interviewed a person for a job position? Or maybe you have been interviewed? At the parish, every so often we look for a person that could fill a certain job position -- for example, a teacher, a business manager, a music director, a secretary, or a liturgy coordinator. And before we hire someone, we always want to meet and have an interview, just to get to know that person. We also get a resume beforehand. And so most times I am very impressed with those wonderful people, with their experiences, enthusiasm, skills. However, only when you work with someone for a while do you really get to know that person. Then you discover if hiring that certain person was a good or bad decision. “Jesus said to his disciples: A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit.” And this applies to all of us -- we can appear to others as a wonderful, devout, and good person. We can provide an outstanding ‘resume’. But if we don’t bring forth good fruits, then we are like those hypocrites. If you are really a good person, then you will bring forth only good things.
