Second Sunday in Ordinary Time ‘a’

John the Baptist testified: “the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.” We are blessed to know Jesus, but someone had to tell us about Him, teach us about God and His Church. Who was that for you? Most of us would say that those who introduced us to our faith were our parents and grandparent. They brought us to be baptized and then taught us our first prayers and gave us an example of their faith. Perhaps you came to believe later in life. Maybe your spouse brought you to Jesus, or maybe a friend. Whatever journey of faith you have had, you know that there are certain people in your life that introduced you to Jesus. We should be thankful to them and pray for them often, asking God to bless them for their faith and good example to us. However, we cannot just stop there because now our mission is the same as theirs -- to make Jesus known. We are called to care about others’ salvation, especially those who have drifted away from the faith or never heard about Christ. John the Baptist was bringing others to Christ; now this mission is entrusted to you and me.
