Second Sunday of Advent ‘b’

John the Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” John was a true prophet; he was honest and humble. He not only called people to repentance, but by the example of his own life he showed others what it means to repent, and what it means to be ready. Today we need prophets like John the Baptist. We need the leaders of our religion not only to tell us how to live, but to show us how to live in order to be ready for Christ’s coming. John the Baptist had many followers; however, he was able to remind them all the time that “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Whatever we do, we should be doing it for the glory of the Lord, not only for our own gain. This is what we can learn from John the Baptist.
