Fr. Kris
Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time ‘a’
We Christians should stand out, we should shine, we should be like salt to this earth that brings good taste and like light that brings others to Christ. But are we? I have a feeling that more and more of us blend in with this world and with what is going on instead of shining. Some of us call ourselves Christians, but then make an excuse for bad actions, saying things like: everybody does it, so I did it too. She spread that gossip about me, so she deserves the same from me. He stole from me, so I will steal from him. This is not a Christian way of living. We need to be different; we need to stand out. When I was a child and used to fight with my brother, my mom would say -- stop it, be smarter than that. Don’t hit him just because he hit you. Show him that you are better than that. Little did I know then, but I understand now, what Jesus is saying to us today -- don’t be like everybody else, be smarter, be wiser, be above all of this: “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” We are called to be different, to be better, to stand out.
