Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

People collect all kinds of things. I am not a collector, but even I know that some so-called collectible items can get desirable and pricy. My grandfather used to collect postage stamps. I remember as a child that he had many, many of them, and he would be able to tell so many stories about each one of them. My grandfather would go to all kinds of expositions and venues where he was able to sell, buy, or trade his stamps. Also, he would spend a crazy amount of money just to get that one stamp that was needed to fulfil his collection. That was his passion. Collectors of all kinds would do almost anything to get that most desirable item. And if they get it, they rejoice full-heartedly. See, those who stray away from God are like that missing desirable piece that God wants to have in order to fulfill His collection. That’s why God would do anything to find that missing piece, and when He finds it, He rejoices more than over all those that he already Has. Jesus tells us today: “I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.” God is like that fine collector -- He would do anything to get that missing one, that most desirable one, and we are here to help Him.
