Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Writer: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

We all know very well the image of Jesus on which red and white rays are coming out of His heart. His left hand is pointing to the Heart and His right hand is raised like for a blessing. Yes, I am talking about the image of Divine Mercy. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and His heart is the symbol of His mercy. We read in the gospel for today that after Jesus was crucified “they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs, but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.” Those rays on the Divine Mercy painting represent that water and blood that came from Jesus’ heart. And for us they are symbols of God’s mercy that is poured upon each one of us. We should be grateful to God that He gave us His only begotten Son to die for us and to die for our sins. And whenever you feel that you have offended God or whenever you sin or stray away, remember that image of the Divine Mercy and come to Him -- to the One who wants to forgive you and pour His blessings upon you.
