Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Lk 1:26-38

On this Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, we celebrate the fact that Mary said Yes to God and brought Christ into this world. This is why we love the Blessed Virgin Mary so much. That’s why so many prayers, hymns, litanies, and churches are dedicated to her name. Mary brought God into our world, brought God to us. However, instead of only praising our Virgin Mother for this, we learn that we too are called to bring God into this world. How? you may ask. The Angel Gabriel will not come to me with the same news, and The Holy Spirit will not come upon me as He did for Mary, and the power of the Most High will not overshadow me, so how can I bring God to this world? There is only one Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our God, the one who literally gave birth to Christ. But you and I are called to bring the same Jesus to this world, to our families, places of work, to our schools, and we do this by the way we live and treat others. By our love of God and by our love of neighbor we too, just like Mary, bring Jesus to others.
