Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ ‘a’

Jesus said:“I am the living bread that came down from heaven;whoever eats this bread will live forever.” Such an underestimated statement and many of us don’t take these words seriously or we may even quarrel among ourselves just like those Jewish people -- “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” And then just like some of Jesus’ listeners, we may say -- this teaching is too hard; it does not make any sense. And so, we leave. Sadly, this still happens today. Many Catholics, instead of participating in Sunday Mass and feeding themselves on the Eucharist, choose to do other things instead. However, if you think about what Jesus said and you have faith that what He is saying is real and true, then you would never miss any Eucharist, but would make sure to come and to receive the Body of Christ as often as possible. We all want to live long and healthy lives, and that’s why we invest in a healthy diet, exercise, and we frequently visit our physician for a check-up. But there is nothing in this world that could make us live forever -- in this world. But Jesus offers us much more than that. He offers us life eternal -- a happy life that will never end. To gain that life, we need to make sure to eat well -- to eat Jesus in the Eucharist. Only that heavenly food will give us eternity.
