Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

God doesn’t force anyone to do anything. One of the greatest gifts each one of us has received from God is our free will. We are called to love God and love one another; we are called to repentance; especially in this time of advent, we are asked and called to help the poor, and we are asked to pray. But we are not forced to do it; we have a choice, to either follow God’s call and His commandments or not. The Blessed Virgin Mary also had a choice and could have said ‘no’ instead of ‘fiat’ – yes, may it happen according to God’s will. Today, on the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, we look at Mary and we thank her that she was able to say ‘yes’ to God’s will. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she wanted to fulfill God’s will. How about you and me? Are we ready to say ‘yes’ to God’s call and win everlasting life, or would we rather follow our own plans?
