Sacrament of baptism is the very first sacrament, a very important sacrament because we are not only washed from original sin, but we become God’s children, a new creation. Because we say and hear this often, that we are God’s children, sometimes this saying may lose its very deep meaning. We need to remember that before Jesus’ time, nobody was allowed to call God a ’Father’. And if you said that you were God’s child, His daughter or son, you would be accused of blasphemy. But Jesus changes this wrong understanding of our God. He taught us the most beautiful prayer in which we can call God ‘our Father’, and more than that, through baptism we become God’s children. God says to you and me: you are my beloved son; you are my beloved daughter. We should always be thankful for this wonderful sacrament.
