“This is my body- eat it; this is my blood- drink it.” Sounds weird, doesn’t it? How can we eat another person’s flesh? We are not cannibals! But this is exactly what Jesus asked us to do, to eat His Body and drink His blood. But at the same time Jesus wants us not to try to understand all this, but to believe in it because only this food will give us life forever, life eternal. And our brain will always tell us -- this can’t be, this thing still tastes like a host and looks like a host, and this wine still tastes like wine and looks and smells like wine. We need to ‘turn off’ our brains at times, close our eyes, and just believe. If you don’t believe, then this holiest food from heaven that provides life eternal will remain only a symbol. Jesus is not a symbol; He is real, He is present, and He wants us to eat Him.
