I always remember that when I was child my mom made sure that we would eat together -- my parents and my siblings. She wanted us to sit at the same table and have a meal together. However, in time, with after-school activities and spending time with friends, it became more difficult to be together at the same time and eat dinner. So, then we continued the tradition on Sundays after Mass. My mom got upset when one of us would grab the plate and sit in front of the TV or went into another room. I asked her once: Why is it so important that we eat together? So, she said: because we barely talk to each other during the day, we all are so busy, and that’s why we need to eat a meal together so we can share our food, share our stories, and share our love. We learned about each other. It’s no coincidence that the disciples couldn’t recognize the Risen Lord until they sat at the table together or shared a meal. Jesus wants us to find time for sharing our stories, sharing the meal, sharing our love. Even before His passion, Jesus ate His last supper with His disciples. We all get so busy in our lives and daily activities, and so it is easy to miss the presence of the Lord. That’s why it is very important to slow down and gather around the table. We do that when we come to Mass, to the Eucharist. We come to share the meal of the Body and Blood of Christ, to share our stories, to get to know each other, to share our love, and to share our faith. “And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.”
