Third Sunday of Lent ‘a’

“The woman left her water jar and went into the town and said to the people: Come see a man who told me everything I have ever done. Could he possibly be the Christ?” Spreading the joy of meeting the Lord -- this is what the Samaritan woman did. There are many joyful moments we are blessed with in our lives: getting that dreamed position at work, graduating from a school, getting engaged, the birth of a new child, winning a lottery, a beautiful vacation -- all of these and more. You wouldn’t want to just keep them to yourself, you would want others to know about them and to share in your joy. If you are using social media and scroll through the screen, checking your friends’ profiles, you can notice that most of them are sharing many things, but mostly the happy moments. We want to share that. The Samaritan woman didn’t have social media, but if she did, she would probably post a picture with her and Jesus standing next to each other, right by that well -- both smiling, with the caption ‘look whom I met today’. I met the Lord, the Christ, I am so happy! She didn’t have social media, and so instead she ran into town to her friends and neighbors to spread the wonderful news and bring others to Jesus. We share many happy moments in this world, but do we spread the joy of being Christian, meeting and receiving Christ in the Eucharist? I know I don’t, but perhaps I should. I should proclaim to this world that I have found the Lord, and now I want to spread this joy and bring others to Him.
