Thursday in the 2 week of Advent ‘c’

Every so often we might talk about another person, saying something like ‘he is a great man’, ‘she is a wonderful mother’, or refer to them as ‘good people, they always care about others’, or you can always trust him or her. And hopefully others, when thinking or speaking about us, have only good things to say. It is always nice when others can say only good things about you and me. But it is far more important when Jesus can also say good things about us. Today in the Gospel Jesus is saying a wonderful thing about John the Baptist: “Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist.” John earned that by being holy, humble, and by directing others to Christ. If we want Jesus one day to say only good things about us, we need to learn from John the Baptist to be humble, holy, and to bring others to Christ.
