“In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them.” I just realized that I am like them at times. There are moments when I pray, for example recite a rosary, and instead of paying attention to the words that I am saying, my mind wonders somewhere else. Perhaps it happens to you too. Your lips say the words, but your mind is wandering. Today Jesus is warning us that this may happen, and we need to be careful not just to say the words with our lips but to have a real and sacred time with God when we pray. If you think that you are babbling like the pagans when you pray, maybe it will be helpful to put aside the prayer that you know too well and try to talk to God with your own words. Talk to Him like you are having a conversation with a person that you need and you love.
