Thursday of the 19 week in ordinary time ‘b’

How many times have you gone to confession? Can you even count? Maybe you go only once a year, then the counting is easy. And how many times has God forgiven you your sins? I am sure that it was each time. Now, how many times have you recited these following words: “I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin”? Now, did you stop sinning and did you avoid all the occasions of sin? I don’t think so. Because if you did, you wouldn’t need to repeat going to confession. You see, God’s forgiveness has no limits. Even when you and I remain unfaithful to our confessional promises, He is still there to forgive us. God wants us to be able to forgive others too. No, it’s not easy, but forgiveness brings healing not only to those who sinned against us, but also most importantly to us. “Peter approached Jesus and asked him, ‘Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.”
