Thursday of the 29 week in ordinary time ‘b’
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire!” And after that He continues that He came to bring division among people, even to people who are close to each other, to families and friends. I personally never understood what Jesus meant. Didn’t He teach us about perfect love, about unity, peace, humility and respect? So, how could He say: “Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” This is hard to understand, isn’t it? But when you think about it, and look at our world and our history, isn’t that exactly what is happening? There have been and will be many wars based on different religious views, people will be persecuting each other for their beliefs, people will be killed for their faith, and even relatives and friends will disagree with your beliefs. No, Jesus’ intention wasn’t to bring division, rather, unity, peace and love. But unfortunately, many don’t follow His commands and believe differently. That’s why the earth is on Fire, not because He wanted that, but because we people are stubborn.
