Don’t you have the feeling sometimes that you need to change something. It could be a simple thing like cleaning your closet or reorganizing the furniture in your home, painting the walls, or getting a new hairstyle. Or maybe you feel like you should make even bigger changes in your life: a different job, or moving to a warmer place, getting married, or joining a religious order. These are important decisions for us. But sometimes all of us feel like there is something we need to do with our spiritual lives, especially when we feel that we are stuck in one place, but inside we get that feeling that we need to do more to get even closer to God. I think that is what happens to those who were looking for guidance from John the Baptist. They knew that there was something missing, and they were yearning to learn from him and get some directions. “Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom Scripture says: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, he will prepare your way before you.” Advent is a time for us to look for directions, to find the best way to God and to make changes in our lives.
