Thursday of the 7 week in ordinary time ‘c’

Mk 9:41-50

I was talking to my friend who recently went through Covid. He said he felt ok, but he lost the sense of smell and taste. He said that everything he ate or drank didn’t have any taste at all. Nobody likes food that is tasteless. All we eat should taste good. That’s why we add different spices, or salt, or sugar. Jesus reminds us today that as Christians we can’t be tasteless; our mission is to bring taste to this world. That means that we can’t close up our Christianity only within the walls of the church and quietly do our prayers and practice the faith. If we do that, then we have no taste. We need instead to go into this world and bring Jesus and His Gospel to others. That’s how we would enrich this world and bring a good taste to it as well. “Everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you restore its flavor? Keep salt in yourselves and you will have peace with one another.”
