The funeral of a young person or a child is always a very sad event and a tough one. As a priest, I witness tragedies like that. It is always very hard to do a funeral of a child. I will never forget a funeral of a young girl who died tragically in a car accident, and I was asked to do the funeral Mass for her. I was amazed by the deep faith of her mother. When I spoke with her, she said that without faith in Jesus she would not be able to go through this tragedy, and it is only because she believes so strongly that she is able to keep going, to hold it together. I feel sorry for those who have no faith, she said. In a moment like this, they have no hope, nowhere to go. And then I remembered Jesus’ words from the gospel that we have today: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” There are moments in our lives when we get confused, heartbroken, or sad and we don’t know what to do. That’s why Jesus invites you to turn to Him; He will give you hope, rest, and peace.
