Thursday of the Fifth Week of Easter ‘a’

There are so many laws and regulations in our communities, our cities, our countries and throughout the world. And you can agree with some of them or not. It is like, for example, with the speed limits on the expressway. Let’s say that according to the law the speed limit is 55 mph, but you like to go faster believing that this regulation limits you. You can even get angry if you get pulled over and have to pay for the ticket for speeding. Well, whether we agree with the laws or not, they are not made to limit us, or to make us angry, but to keep us safe. They are made to keep our world a better and safer place. God gave us commandments -- certain laws that we should follow, not to limit us, not to control us, not to make our lives more difficult, but only because He loves us and cares for our safety. Jesus said: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.” God gave us commandments because He loves us, and only by keeping them will we prove our love for Him.
