Abraham and other prophets that foretold the coming of the Messiah are very important figures in our Christian history. Those prophets were holy and courageous men. However, their role and their mission was to prepare people for Christ. But when Christ came, many missed Him, since they lived with their past, dwelling on the prophets’ promises, but not being able to understand that those prophets were truly pointing to Jesus from Nazareth. “So the Jews said to him, You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM. So they picked up stones to throw at him.” The history of our salvation is very important, but that’s only a history. We need to live here and now, and to proclaim that Christ is present among us. He is not just an historical figure that was walking on this planet and performing miracles over 2000 years ago. We have Jesus among us, today, now -- He is present in the scriptures, the sacraments and in other persons.
