Jesus said that “not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” How should we understand this teaching? When I think about it, I realize that Jesus is trying to tell us that prayer must lead us to action. For us Christians, both prayer and good deeds should never be separated. You can’t say: ‘I am a good Catholic because I say my rosary daily, go to mass every Sunday, read the bible, and go for adoration often’, but at the same time you are angry at some person you can’t forgive, and you never help those who might need your assistance. But at the same time, it would be wrong to say: ‘I am a good Catholic because I help everyone around, I support all the charity programs, I volunteer in my church’, but you don’t have time to pray, read the bible, or if you don’t talk to God and don’t attend mass on Sunday. We must pray often, but that prayer should lead us to action because: “not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”
