Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent ‘b’

If we love someone, we want her or him to feel special. We would respect that person and try to prove our love by special gestures. In a similar way we try to express our love for Jesus. That’s why His images were painted all over the world by the most famous artists. We also add so many beautiful titles to His name, we worship Him, we adore Him, and we don’t want to offend Him. So, how can we understand the words that Jesus spoke: “I do not accept human praise;moreover, I know that you do not have the love of God in you.” Does this mean that He does not accept our praise? Well, first of all, He doesn’t want to be praised only by our lips or by calling Him those wonderful names. He wants us to worship Him with our hearts, to love Him, and to believe. But I understand these words of Jesus in another way -- I think that He wants to tell me that there is no painting, no title, no sculpture in this world that could add anything to God’s majesty. Whatever we call Him, however we portray Him, and no matter how much money we spend to build the most magnificent cathedrals in His name – none of this will make God any greater than He is. Those things are meant for us, to make us better, and to understand how great our God is.
