Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

“And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the Kingdom of God.’ And no one dared to ask him any more questions.” Have you ever wondered why Jesus said – you are not far from the Kingdom, instead of saying something like - congratulations, you have reached the Kingdom of God. See, that scribe who asked Jesus which is the first of all the commandments already knew the answer. He knew that first he must love God above everything else and then another person as himself. However, he knew that only in theory. Jesus wanted him to put those commandments into action. That’s why He said: “you are not far from the Kingdom of God.” But if you want to reach that Kingdom - start loving. We have memorized all the commandments, we have learned so many of them, but it is not enough to only know them, it is not enough only to understand them. If you want to reach God’s Kingdom, you must act, you must express that love.
