Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Jesus’ words from today’s Gospel sound very comforting, He said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.” And I know what you may be thinking -- how can you find any comfort in those words, especially in the first part -- you will grieve, you will mourn? Nobody wants to grieve or mourn; we want to rejoice and live happy lives. However, what we need to understand is that Jesus does not want anything bad happening to us, but He knows that sad moments for us in this world are inevitable, especially for those who are Christians. But if you and I persevere and keep our faith in the Lord, He promises us that that grief and sadness will become joy. We may not be rewarded in this life for our good way of living, but we will receive eternal joy instead. This is very comforting for me and I hope for you.
