Most times when the Pharisees asked Jesus about something, they didn’t care about the truth, but instead they wanted to trip up Jesus on something, to catch Him saying things that are contrary to their beliefs. Today, they asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God would come. They probably expected Jesus to say something like - it is near, or it will come next week, or next month, in a year, and so on. But Jesus didn’t give them any specific date; He simply said, “the Kingdom of God is among you.” I think that the Pharisees were hoping that Jesus would provide them with a specific time because they were proudly thinking that the Kingdom is reserved for them. However, Jesus told them that instead of looking forward to a specific time or date, instead of waiting for the Kingdom to come, we are already part of God’s Kingdom. It is among us; it is inside of us; and it is existing in the present moment. We need to proclaim that Kingdom to the world and by our exemplary lives give witness to others that we belong to Jesus’ Kingdom.
