Thursday of the Thirty Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

When I was a child, I used to think that whenever I sin, whenever I choose evil instead of choosing good, God gets angry with me. For me the sacrament of confessions was a way of saying sorry to God and make Him less angry. How wrong I was thinking that way. God is never angry, not even when we sin, and He always loves us the same. However, when we sin, we make God sad. We make Him sad because we are hurting ourselves whenever we choose evil. Our sins don’t affect our God. He does not get angry, and He loves us the same. It is sin that hurts us. When Jesus looked at the city of Jerusalem that didn’t recognize God’s presence, “Jesus saw the city and wept over it.” Jesus didn’t get angry, but he wept. He was saddened by all the wrong choices that people made - choices that affected them. When you and I sin, Jesus also weeps because we are hurting ourselves.
