Do you read the bible, particularly the gospels? Even if you don’t have time to read it on your own, you listen to the word of God each time you come to Mass. Because the first part of the Mass is called the ‘liturgy of the word’ during which we hear and meditate on the message that comes to us from God, from Jesus. However, listening to the word of God is only a first step in fulfilling His will in our lives. Jesus reminds us today that it is not enough only to listen to His words, it is not even enough to know by heart all four gospels. Rather we must put all we have learned from Jesus into action. Otherwise, we will become like a fool who built his house on sand. “The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.” Jesus wants us to build our spirituality on a strong foundation, on a rock.
