Have you ever wondered why Herod the tetrarch (the one who beheaded John the Baptist) was trying to see Jesus? Probably because he had heard many things that people were saying about Jesus. Some were saying that it was not Jesus but John who raised from the dead, some were saying that “Elijah has appeared” or it was one of the ancient prophets. Maybe Herod wanted to see with His own eyes who this famous person was that everybody was talking about. But what if Herod wanted to see Jesus because he felt bad for what he had done? Maybe he was seeking mercy and forgiveness? Maybe he wanted to change? Maybe he wanted to explain to Jesus why he killed John the Baptist? We don’t know, I don’t know - but I think this is what we must do after we offend God with our sins. We simply must seek Jesus and seek His mercy and change.
