Tuesday in the Octave of Easter

We read today in the gospel that “Mary Magdalene stayed outside the tomb weeping.” At that moment for her, the tomb was the ultimate destiny. She focused too much on that dark tomb, but she forgot what Jesus had promised -- namely that our ultimate destiny is Resurrection and eternal life, not a dark tomb. Some of us, too, focus too much on Good Friday, forgetting about joyous Easter Sunday. Too many of us are saddened and weighed down by evil things happening in our world and in our lives. However, we can’t ever forget that after all of those dark and painful moments, there will be a great reward for us, there will be resurrection. We can’t just stay and weep, we need to believe that what Jesus promised is real.
