Tuesday of the 11 week in ordinary time ‘b’

Love your enemies – probably the most difficult challenge to follow. Yes, Jesus wants us to love those who are our enemies. It is easy to say, ‘love your enemy’, and we do say that often. But can we love our enemies? Just think of a person that you don’t like, or of someone who hurt you in some way. It may be a colleague from school or workplace, or the person who cut you off while driving, or your neighbor next door that you stopped talking to. At times it is easier to say, ‘I hate you’ instead of saying ‘I love you’. “For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?” It is easy to accept, to travel with, to have dinner with and to have fun with people that we like, but we will rather skip these activities if it requires joining with those that we don’t necessarily care for. Yes, Jesus’ teaching is hard, very hard, but we need to follow ALL of His teachings, not only those that are easy and make us feel good.
