There are many Christian songs about our one Christian family. Many times, we would hear that we are one family. Sometimes even the priest at the beginning of his mass would address the congregation with the words: my brothers and sisters… Where did this all come from? Why are we saying this? I think the answer is in the Gospel reading today. When Jesus was asked to come and speak with His Mother and His brothers, He said that all of those who follow and listen to Him belong to His family: “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Indeed, we are one family if we do the will of God, and the will of God is to love God with all of our heart and our sisters and brothers as ourselves.
